The Spirit of MusicTent

MusicTent exists because music is better when shared. Every guideline we have flows from one principle: protect the space where that sharing can happen freely and joyfully. We want debates about music to be passionate, disagreements about genres to be spirited, and song battles to be fierce — but always within a framework of basic human respect. Rooms should feel like the best kind of house party: loud, diverse, and welcoming to anyone who shows up with genuine love for music.

Be Respectful

Disagree with someone's taste? Great — that's what makes music interesting. But there's a difference between "that track doesn't hit for me" and personal attacks. Respect means engaging with ideas, not attacking people. It means welcoming newcomers, tolerating different musical tastes, and understanding that what sounds wrong to you might be the most important song in someone else's life.

Room creators set the tone of their spaces. Follow their rules. If a room has a specific genre focus or code of conduct, honor it — or find a room that suits you better.

What We Don't Allow

• Harassment, threats, or targeted abuse of any member
• Hate speech based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability
• Spam — repeated messages, irrelevant links, or self-promotion that disrupts conversation
• Sharing links to pirated music or copyrighted content without permission
• Impersonating artists, other users, or MusicTent staff
• Any attempt to manipulate leaderboard scores or battle votes through bots or coordinated abuse

How to Report Issues

If you encounter behavior that violates these guidelines, you have tools to act. You can block any user from your profile settings — this removes their messages from your view and prevents further contact. Room creators and admins can mute or remove members from their spaces. For serious violations — threats, harassment, or spam — report directly through the About page, which includes contact information for the MusicTent team.

Consequences

We believe in proportional responses. A first-time minor violation usually results in a warning. Repeated or serious violations can lead to temporary restrictions, removal from specific rooms, or — for the most severe cases — account suspension. Our goal is never to exclude people from music; our goal is to make sure no one ruins it for everyone else.

The vast majority of MusicTent members never need to read enforcement sections — they just come here to share music, and they do it well. If that's you, thank you. Every respectful conversation, every genuine track recommendation, every gracious battle loss makes this community worth building. These guidelines exist to protect what you're already doing right.
